Week 73: Child's Pose Breathing with Foam Roller

It's December! Which means we're in full throttle holiday mode, so this month's theme is - you guessed it - Surviving the Holidays! Which naturally means lots and lots of breathing drills to keep you sane.



Exercise: Child's Pose Breathing with Foam Roller


Purpose: To use positioning and inhalation to achieve expansion in the posterior (backside) of your ribcage


Who It's For: Everyone who loves (or hates) the holidays (and their families). And anyone with a ribcage.


Why We Love It: Because breathing works, trust us


Procedure:

  1. Get into the child's pose position, sitting on your heels with your feet flat

  2. Place a foam roller on your lap, fold forward and place the back of your forearms palm up on a pillow

  3. Inhale in through your nose and focus the air to fill your upper back and sides of ribs

  4. Exhale long and slow through your mouth like you're fogging up a glass, getting every morsel of air out as you pin your ribs downward into the foam roller

  5. Repeat this sequence for 5-10 breaths
